I have a confession: I own a PS5 and I have trust issues. Every time Xbox announces an exclusive, I smile politely while quietly uninstalling a backlog game to make shelf space for jealousy. It's 2026, and I still cannot play Avowed on my PlayStation. Yes, Avowed came out on February 18, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S and PC. I checked the PlayStation Store that morning like a kid checking for Santa. Nothing. No wizard. No mushroom cave. No dense Obsidian RPG. Just me and my increasingly dusty DualSense.

The PS5's 2025 Was Not Exactly Stacked

Look, I get it. Sony had Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2. Ghost of Yotei looked like someone turned a samurai painting into a game, and Death Stranding 2 was Kojima being gloriously unhinged. Both were huge. Both were genuinely exciting. But after those two? Crickets. Tumbleweeds. A lonely mule cart rolling across a beach. Outside of some third-party gems like Ballad of Antara and the indie Midnight Walk, PlayStation's first-party cupboard was pretty bare.

Meanwhile, a surprising number of my PS5 games were actually Xbox productions. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle? Xbox. The Outer Worlds 2? Xbox. I felt less like a loyal console warrior and more like a roommate eating the snacks my rival bought.

Xbox Decided to Show Off

Xbox in 2025 was like that friend who hits the gym for six months and then shows up at the beach. Avowed, Fable, South of Midnight, Gears of War: E-Day. Even cross-platform heavyweights like DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 were on the menu.

South of Midnight looked like a gothic Southern fable with stop-motion energy. Fable had the vibe of a British comedy that occasionally lets you fight a chicken. Gears of War E-Day promised to make me cry about a chainsaw gun. And Avowed? Avowed was the one I wanted most.

Why Avowed Specifically?

Avowed is Obsidian Entertainment doing what Obsidian does best: building a tightly packed RPG with enough dialogue, weird gods, and morally questionable choices to ruin my sleep schedule. It's set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity. Those games are already on PlayStation. So it's not like Sony players don't know the world. We just can't continue exploring it, which feels like being invited to a party and told to wait outside with a bag of chips.

Here is why a PS5 port makes too much sense:

  • 🧙 Pillars of Eternity is already on PlayStation, so the lore is welcome here.

  • 🚀 The Outer Worlds 2, another Obsidian RPG, is launching on PS5 day one.

  • 💰 Xbox games historically sell better on PS5, so more money for everyone.

  • ⚔️ PlayStation has plenty of soulslikes, but fewer traditional high-fantasy RPGs.

The game earned plenty of praise, by the way. One outlet gave Avowed a 9/10. Another was less impressed with a 6.5/10. That average is still more than enough to make me glare at my PlayStation library.

Cross-Platform Isn't the Enemy

Console wars are exhausting. In 2026, I do not care which plastic box wins. I just want to play the game. Xbox has been leading the 'let everyone play' charge, and honestly, I respect it. Sony should take the freebie. Avowed would not hurt the PS5. It would fill the exact high-fantasy RPG gap that many of us have been complaining about since we finished The Witcher 3 for the eighth time.

So yes, Sony will survive without Avowed. Its lineup is strong enough. But my patience is not. I am not asking for a miracle. I am asking for a wizard, a sword, and a skill tree that makes me feel smarter than I actually am. Please, Xbox. Port Avowed to PS5. My DualSense is ready. 🙏
